Model I
EXPO 100 EXPANDER
Instructions
1. |
Remove the covers from the unit, and locate the PLL section on the circuit board. |
2. |
Unsolder the 36.570 MHz mixer crystal from the circuit board, and solder the removed crystal into the expander kit socket by using short pieces of #18 wire as shown in Figure A. |
3. |
Solder the wires from the expander kit into the removed crystal holes on the circuit board. |
4. |
Locate a spot on the outside cabinet and drill a hole to mount the expander as close to the crystal socket as possible. |
5. |
Position the provided label next to the switch and place the knob into the correct position. |
6. |
Turn the unit on and check its operation in all positions. If the expander fails to operate, the wires may have to be shortened by soldering only one wire to the (hot) side of the crystal socket, and soldering the other wire to the nearest ground available. If the unit is off frequency, a capacitor or RF choke may have to be added to the ground wire of the expander as shown in Figure B below. Typical values for capacitor are 10, 22, 39, or 47pf. For RF chokes use 1 to 6uh. (See Figure B) |
NOTE: If the high or low crystal does not work, change capacitor C151 in the radio from 150pf to 47pf. This will not change the frequency, but will lower the load capacitance of the oscillator.
