EXPO100 EXPANDER

Installation

1.

Remove the covers from the unit, locate and unsolder the 17.056 Mhz crystal.

2.

Drill a hole in the outside cabinet and mount the expander kit as close to the removed crystal as possible.

3.

Solder the expander wires into the holes of the removed crystal keeping the wires as short as possible.

4.

Solder the removed 17.056 Mhz crystal into the blank holes of the expander kit.

Clarifier

1.

The Voice Lock., or clarifier control, is quite different in this unit than in many others.

Modification of this control to Slide. in frequency on SSB mode works fine, however, in the AM Mode the frequencies are off center, and difficult to tune. The added 3PDT switch in the kit was added so that switching the Voice Lock' back to Normal could be accomplished. The switch should be wired as shown in the diagrams below.

2.

Follow the wires from the aVoice Lock. control to the board and find the one connected to transistor Q307. Cut this wire at the "Voice Lock". control (A) and solder it to the 3PDT switch. Solder another wire from the "Voice Lock" control to the switch as shown below. Solder another wire from the (B) side of the "Voice Lock" control to the center pin of the switch, and the bottom-center pin to ground (see switch diagram). Do Not remove the wire originally soldered to the "Voice Lock's" (B) side. Solder an additional wire to the same contact on the (B) side.

3.

Locate diode CD304 on the circuit board, and cut the top as shown below. Solder a wire from each side of the diode to the switch.

4.

Solder the remaining wire from the switch to the (+) side of capacitor C123.

Tuning

MODULATION: = R134 SSB POWER: = R130

NOTE Turn the "Voice Lock" control back to it's center position and the kit's 3PDT slider switch to the Slide position. Adjust coil L303 for center frequency on AM in the normal channe/ position. Switch the 3PDT back to the Normal position and adjust pot R317 for center freq. Adjust pots R321, R325, R327 for proper receive range of the Voice Lock. control.
