EXPO 100 EXPANDER

Installation Instructions

 

1.

Remove the covers from the unit and unsolder the coupling capacitor shown on the reverse side.

2.

Solder the new coupling capacitor provided into the board holes replacing the removed capacitor.

3.

Drill a 1/4" hole in the outside cabinet and mount the expander board with the hardware provided.

4.

Solder the expanders red wire to the + 13.8 VDC at the on-off switch.

5.

Solder the expanders black wire to circuit board ground.

6.

Solder the expanders white wire to the newly installed coupling capacitor. This should be the side away from the PLL chip.

7.

Slightly adjust the VCO coil to allow all channels operational.

 

Installation Notes

Since the design of each radio may differ, some alterations may be necessary. Units such as the Cobra 29 GTL and LTD may require adding two 10pf capacitors in series, instead of the 22pf capacitor with the expander. Solder the white wire between the two capacitors.

 

Other units using the uPD861 PLL chip may require soldering the white wire to the existing capacitor at pin 9 of the PLL chip. (opposite side)

 

Still others require additional tuning of the VCO coil to allow the receive to operate, even though the transmit is locking on all channels..

 

Off frequency operation may be solved by adjusting the small trimmers on each high and low crystal.

 

Warranty

This unit is warrantied for a period of 90 days from purchase date and must be accompanied with a sales receipt for warranty service. Tampering will void all warranty.
